Fish larvae floating in an open environment are so vulnerable to predators that mortality can come close to 100%. Fortunately, most fish species are genetically wired to survive this by producing hundreds, or even thousands, of eggs at a time, so at least some will survive to adulthood.
Biri Initiative will harvest these larvae and support them in tanks until they are large enough to be released into the mangroves and
sea grasses of our Marine Protected Areas to continue their normal development.
To maintain equilibrium on the reefs, excess production of any species will be donated to other Marine Protected Areas or sold to the local aquarium market.
